Holodomor Remembrance Day – November 25, 2017

Event Date: Nov 25, 2017

Ukraine remembers, the world acknowledges.

In this month of November, a month of Remembrance, there is yet another forgotten, little-known, covered-up genocide that took place in the years 1932-33 that the world needs to learn about, learn from, and commemorate. Eighty-four years ago, in the Ukraine, a great famine took the lives of nearly 10 million people, 3 million of them children, starved to death as a result of the deliberate policies of the Soviet regime of Joseph Stalin. This horrific tragedy has become known as the HOLODOMOR, meaning Murder by Hunger.

Friday, November 25 is International Holodomor Memorial Day. On Nov. 25, as a Catholic community, we remember and pray for the millions of innocent victims of the Holodomor.

Throughout Canada, installations of black flags at prominent city locations will pay tribute to the millions of children, women and men who were victims of the Soviet regime’s genocidal policy to eliminate the Ukrainian people.
